Lithgow Hospital and the Portland Tabulam Health Centre have a new leader at the helm in Lynette Day, who comes to the role of General Manager after acting in the position since October last year, and for almost six years prior as the Divisional Manager (Medicine) at Nepean Hospital.
Lynette has a background in nursing and has also worked as the Service Development Manager at Nepean Hospital, as well as in cancer and palliative care across the Sydney West Cancer Network.
“There’s a great sense of community here in Lithgow and Portland,” says Lynette.
“Our staff are also the community that live here, or they’re very connected to the community, which means that the care we provide is as if to a family member or friend.”
Lynette says that the role appeals to her passion for working with people and her background as a nurse.
“I appreciate the diversity of a leadership role in this smaller environment, being on the ground and in touch with real people,” says Lynette.
“While working in a rural setting has its own unique challenges, its far less anonymous than in a more urban facility. This has benefits for both patients and staff, and it’s a very pleasant setting to work in.”
Lynette says that her priorities include providing the highest quality of care for patients, as well as developing partnerships and exploring new models of working to better integrate local health services.
“I want every member of the community to know that when they walk through our doors, they're going to experience top quality care, and that every member of our staff feels well supported to provide it,” says Lynette.
Lynette is also excited about new consumer engagement opportunities, including with the local Aboriginal community.
“We've recently employed an Aboriginal liaison officer, and I'm really looking forward to working with them to better engage our Aboriginal community, making sure they're an important part of what we're doing here.”
