Our vision and values
Our vision
Western NSW is a unique place to live, work and raise a family. Our communities are strong, diverse and deeply connected to the land and to each other. We value the strength of our Aboriginal communities and the way people across our District come together to face challenges and create opportunities.
As part of the NSW Health system, our purpose is to provide health care and treatment to people who are sick or injured and to protect, promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of the people we serve. We do this by delivering safe, high-quality, and equitable health care, and by working with our communities to prevent illness and support people to live healthier lives. We strive for excellence in every aspect of care - guided by evidence, shaped by compassion, and grounded in our shared responsibility to the people and places of Western NSW.
Our vision is healthier rural people and thriving communities.
We are committed to a health system that listens, respects and puts people at the centre, one that responds with courage, reflects the resilience of our people, and builds stronger, healthier futures.
Shaping our priorities
This plan is built from what we heard from the people of Western NSW - staff, communities, partners and local leaders. They told us what matters most and these insights have shaped our four strategic priorities:
World class rural healthcare, closer to home

Healthy communities, local voices

A strong and empowered workforce

Smart, future ready systems

Our values
What we stand for and how we live and work

These values shape how we deliver care, how we support each other, and how we partner with communities.
How we developed this plan
This Strategic Plan was built by listening to the people who live and work in Western NSW. In 2025 we invited ideas and feedback through surveys, workshops and conversations with:
- Over 500 staff from across our hospitals, community health services, and support roles, who shared their experiences and ideas for improvement.
- 150 community members, patients, carers, and consumer representatives, who told us what matters most for their health and wellbeing.
- 15 partners organisations from across the region including health services, Aboriginal health organisations, education and training providers, and NGOs who work with us to support healthy communities.
From these conversations we heard what matters to our people. We thank everyone who contributed their time, insights and energy to help create a plan that reflects the needs and strengths of our region and provides a clear pathway for the future.
