Marking guidelines
Marking guidelines are developed with the examination paper and are used by markers to guide their marking of a student's response. The table shows each question and the criteria with each mark or mark range.
Sample answers may also be developed and included in the guidelines to make sure questions assess a student's knowledge and skills, and guide the Supervisor of Marking on the expected nature and scope of a student's response. They are not intended to be exemplary or even complete answers or responses.

Feedback on practical examination
Interview
Students should:
- choose a topic for Personal Investigation related to one of the issues set for study
- ensure research is supported with relevant quality texts and sources
- discuss and substantiate a point of view by providing evidence from their research
- reflect on research findings to help express opinions or develop new perceptions about their Personal Investigation
- reflect on research findings indicating how the research helped express opinion/change opinion or develop a new perception about the issue related to the Personal Investigation
- manipulate language to respond in a coherent and logical way to the questions
- use a variety of relevant vocabulary, grammar, sentence structures and expressions
- avoid responding with pre-prepared responses not addressing the question.
In better responses, students were able to:
- apply research findings and textual study
- use valid research findings from the personal investigation
- present a variety of ideas and information demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the topic/issue investigated
- reflect on the process of the Personal Investigation
- use appropriate vocabulary and expressions for issue(s) presented in the Personal Investigation.
Areas for students to improve include:
- making a clear connection between the Personal Investigation topic and chosen prescribed issue
- referring to the texts used in the research when responding to questions
- reflecting on the findings presented in the texts on personal/community/global perspectives
- presenting their own opinion(s) about the topic and reliability of the texts
- analysing the research by comparing and contrasting between the ways the topic is explored in different texts.
Feedback on written examination
Students should:
- respond in English or Korean as required by question
- demonstrate understanding of the issue(s) raised in the text
- include all relevant details and support response with reference to the text
- use appropriate vocabulary, expressions and language to address the style of writing required by the question
- use appropriate register when responding in Korean
- respond within the required word and/or character limit
- respond to the number of texts referred to in the question.
In better responses, students were able to:
- demonstrate understanding of ‘describing’ and the advantages and disadvantages, providing relevant details (Q2)
- provide views and opinions supported by sufficient references (Q4)
- use Korean authentically by extracting key ideas from given text.
Areas for students to improve include:
- summarising main points concisely rather than transcribing aural text (Q1)
- analysing how the poet portrays his yearning for home in Korea to both content and language features (Q5)
- understanding the question and providing required ideas and information accordingly 견해 (Q6), 설득 (Q3).
Students should:
- use the conventions of the style of writing required by the question
- use language appropriate to the context, purpose and audience
- use a wide variety of vocabulary, sentence structures and prescribed words and/or characters
- structure the response in a logical and coherent manner
- support ideas and opinions with appropriate examples
- respond in Korean as stated in the question
- use appropriate register consistently throughout response
- use vocabulary, expressions and structures suitably connected with the issue raised in the question.
In better responses, students were able to:
- provide a variety of authentic ideas and information relevant to the question
- minimise errors in spelling and language structures
- sustain a point of view throughout
- sequence ideas and information logically
- demonstrate excellent control of highly polished vocabulary and sentence structures 개량 한복, 한국의 유산, 문화와 전통 보존 및 홍보 (Q7), 다문화 사회속 한국문화의 존재감, 문화적 정체성, 한류 (Q8).
Areas for students to improve include:
- structuring responses in a cohesive manner
- reading and analysing the question accurately
- elaborating on ideas and linking sentences coherently (using such linking vocabularies 특히, 우선, 만일, 따라서, 마지막으로).
- paragraphing with an introduction, body with main ideas and a conclusion.
