Important information for students

Students can understand how to prepare for their languages oral exam and what to expect at the exam.

Before your exam day
  • After your school has scheduled your exam, log in to Students Online to download your confirmation sheet and helpful maps and parking information.
  • If your school does not schedule your oral exam, NESA will schedule it. Once your exam is scheduled, your confirmation sheet will be available on Students Online from Friday, 16 June 2023. If your exam details are not available on Students Online by this date, talk to your teacher.
  • Check the exam venue location. It is unlikely your language oral exam venue will be your home school.
  • No alternative arrangements will be made if you fail to attend a scheduled exam.
On your exam day
  • Bring a printed copy of your confirmation sheet with you to the exam.
  • Arrive at the exam centre 30 minutes before the start time on your confirmation sheet. The start time refers to the start of the exam session and means students do their exams progressively from this time.
  • Be prepared to wait under supervision to do your exam. You may bring food and drink to have while you wait as there are no food outlets at exam centres. Food and drink cannot be taken into the exam room.
  • You may consult study materials including dictionaries while you are waiting, but you will not be permitted to refer to these during your exam.
  • All electronic communication devices must be switched off while you are waiting to be examined and during your exam. This means any study material on your device will not be accessible. If you are found using your mobile phone during this time, you may jeopardise your exam.
  • NESA staff are not responsible for the security of any material or equipment brought to an exam.
  • You should not wear your school uniform to your oral exam.
  • If you are unwell on your oral exam day, ask your teacher to contact us on 1800 200 955 or email examlang@nesa.nsw.edu.au.
  • Should you require wheelchair access, please contact us as soon as possible on 1800 200 955 or email examlang@nesa.nsw.edu.au.
