Key information

  • You must attend a marriage interview to be able to book your venue and date.
  • We will email you all the documents required when you book your marriage interview.
  • Your ceremony date needs to be at least one calendar month after the lodgement of your Notice Of Intended Marriage form (NOIM).

Book your marriage interview

Interviews are held over the phone, or in person at our Pyrmont Registry.

When you book your marriage interview, you will choose the option that best suits you.

Phone interview

Once you have booked a phone interview, you will need to prepare and submit your marriage documents according to the instructions in your confirmation email. 

You need to email your completed marriage documents to us at least 7 days prior to your interview.

In person interview

In-person interviews are held at our Pyrmont Registry.

Once you have booked your in person interview, you will need to prepare your marriage documents according to the instructions in your confirmation email.

Prepare your marriage documents

Before attending your marriage interview, you’ll need to prepare all of the following:

If either person has been previously married, you’ll need to provide proof that the marriage has ended, such as a:

If you've booked a phone interview, you will needs to submit these documents by email at least 7 days prior to the interview. 

If you've booked an in-person interview, you will need to bring the completed documents to the interview.

Instructions to assist you to complete these documents will be sent in your interview booking confirmation email.

Attend your marriage interview

You and your partner are required to attend the interview.

During this time we’ll:

  • Review your Notice Of Intended Marriage (NOIM) and identity documents
  • Discuss options for your ceremony and book your venue. Find out more about our available venues.
  • Process payments for your NOIM lodgement and ceremony.

If either person is not fluent in English, you will need to organise for an interpreter to be in attendance.

After your ceremony is booked

After you attend your marriage interview, your ceremony will be booked and you can start planning your wedding day.

You'll need to arrange 2 witnesses for your ceremony, and you may choose to exchange rings, or read personal vows in addition to the legal vows.
