Primary producers in the sheep and farmed goat sector may be eligible for a rebate to supplement the cost of purchasing and installing electronic identification (eID) tagging systems, which will become mandatory nationwide.

Program objective
To provide funding to eligible primary production enterprises for the costs associated with the purchase and installation of eligible items as part of the implementation of mandatory individual electronic identification (eID) tagging for sheep and farmed goats within NSW.
This program is administered by Rural Assistance Authority.
This program is funded by Australian Government and Department of Primary Industries.
Eligibility
Eligible primary production enterprises can apply for a rebate of 50% of the cost of eID items for sheep and farmed goats, as listed in the program guidelines (PDF 234.6KB). The maximum rebate that can be claimed per applicant with 50% co-funding for works undertaken and purchases from 15 December 2022 is:
- up to $4000 for panel and handheld readers, and related software (including software subscriptions up until 1 January 2027)
- up to $11,250 for an auto drafter that is fitted with a panel reader and related software (including software subscriptions up until 1 January 2027) and goat handling equipment.
Who can apply
To be eligible for this rebate, you must meet the following conditions:
- you are a primary production enterprise in the sheep or farmed goat sector
- your business operates as a sole trader, partnership, trust or private company
- you have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- you have a NSW Property Identification Code (PIC)
- you are a trading entity with tax returns or financial statements showing your business is actively involved in the sheep or farmed goat sector.
What you can apply for
- eID handheld readers
- eID panel readers
- purchase, installation, and training for software connected to sheep and goat eID infrastructure (note: software subscriptions are eligible up to 1 January 2027)
- auto drafter fitted with a panel reader
- goat handling equipment (note: for individual animal and race only).
What you can't apply for
- eID devices (such as tags)
- eID hardware (that is, computers, laptops, tablets)
- weighing load cells and weigh crates
- structural modifications to yards (such as races/pens)
- wages for your employees or your self-assessed labour costs.

What your application needs to include
You will need the following information and documentation when applying:
- your entity name and ABN
- your RAA 'BP number' (if you have one)
- your Property Identification Code (PIC) Number associated with your application (you only need to supply one)
- your most recent tax returns or financial statements for your business, including livestock trading statements
- your business bank account details.
You should also include quotes, estimates or invoices where available, however this is not mandatory at the point of application.

After the application is submitted
Successful applications will be decided by: NSW Rural Assistance Authority
The Rural Assistance Authority will assess applications received against the eligibility criteria.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome within 30 business days after submitting a completed application.
