Program objective
State and territory governments around Australia, in collaboration with livestock industry representatives, are working towards the implementation of individual electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats by 1 January 2027.
As part of the implementation of eID of sheep and goats in New South Wales and to incentivise early adoption of eID devices by NSW sheep and farmed goat owners.
The NSW Government is implementing this eID tag discount program, being the “NSW Sheep & Goat eID Device Payment program", to provide funding for a point-of-sale discount on eligible devices.
Grant amount
Total individual grant amounts will vary depending on sales.
eID Device Payments are $0.69 excluding GST ($0.76 inclusive of GST) per Eligible Device which a grant recipient (or its distributor or retailer) sells to eligible customers during the Discount Period.
For example, if a grant recipient (or its distributor or retailer) sells 100,000 devices during the discount period, they will receive a total grant amount of $6900 (ex GST).
This program is funded and administered by Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
Program evaluation
The department will monitor the grants against the purpose and objectives of the program.
Grant recipients will be required to participate in evaluation, such as surveys and reporting.
