Upgrade of the Katoomba Falls Visitor Precinct Project

About the Project

Katoomba Falls Visitor Precinct is a primary access point for visitation into the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and Scenic World, Australia's largest private tourist attraction. The precinct hosts over 1 million visitors pa and supports both day and night time activities.

This project seeks to drive nature-focused tourism and recreation, as well as an improved night time visitor economy by delivering greater accessibility to Katoomba Falls Reserve and the World Heritage Area and improved visitor facilities. The recent development of the Katoomba Falls Night Lit Walk, a 1.3km walk providing floodlit views of the falls and cliff lines, has resulted in a marked increase in visitation. The project will deliver improved visitor facilities, in particular traffic management, parking, amenities and connectivity to other key attractions and the town centre, and will improve visitation capacity.

The project will also provide walking connectivity to the Blue Mountains Planetary Health Centre being established as a national centre of excellence in planetary health.

The project will provide the following outcomes:

-Improved accessibility providing for a range of mobility needs;

-Increased access to natural areas and the spectacular Blue Mountains escarpments to a wider proportion of the community;

-Increased public safety and asset resilience to future natural disasters;

-Improved traffic management and parking.
