About the Project

The Dharawal Nature Playspace Project delivers a unique outdoor playspace surrounded by its river and bushland setting and inspired by Aboriginal culture, people and the local environment. The project engages visitors in a creative, immersive, fun, educational and tactile experience to build understanding of Dharawal Country. 

The space is co-designed with the Dharawal communities to support and celebrate Aboriginal culture and connection to country. The design incorporates the principles of "Everyone Can Play", providing an educational and immersive space for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. 

Visitors will also be able to access a variety of spaces and trails within the reserve from the playspace.

Project Scope

The project features:

  • Three First Nations-themed play areas for children aged 0-5 years, 5-10 years, and 10-15 years old
  • Incorporated water elements including a splash play area
  • An upgrade of existing amenities for improved accessibility
  • Upgraded parking spaces (including accessibility parking)
  • Accessible furniture
  • Interpretation and public art
  • Entry signage
  • Hardworks including sandstone boulders, paving and footpaths
  • Shade structures and picnic shelters
  • Soft landscaping including plantings

Funding:

NSW Government Funding: $6,478,118.00

Co-Contribution: $454,240.00

TOTAL PROJECT VALUE: $6,932,358.00
