About the Project

The Begnell Field Revitalisation project will transform a declining facility into a fit-for-purpose park with a quality sportsground and modern amenities. The project will deliver improvements to Begnell Oval and surrounds to address major drainage and flooding issues, declining amenities, safety and vandalism concerns, accessibility issues and inclusion barriers for women.

Project Scope

To address current issues and transform Begnell Field into a fit-for-purpose facility that improves liveability and meets current and future community needs, the project will deliver:

Upgraded amenities building:
Upgrade of external building
Upgrade of canteen
Upgrade of older change rooms to be female friendly
Inclusion of new female umpires' room
Upgrade of existing amenities
Upgrade of existing accessible toilet to include baby change facilities
Inclusion of new 2nd level function and viewing spaces with accessible paths/ramp from the car park


Upgraded sportsground:
Upgrade of sports oval lighting
Formalisation of roadways and pedestrian paths with lighting
Park ID and wayfinding signage
New security gates and fencing
New car parking area with accessible parking and paths
Upgrade of perimeter seating and viewing areas
Tiered grandstand area incorporating wheelchair accessible ramp and wheelchair seating


Upgrades for surrounds:
Shared bike/pedestrian pathway connecting to Blanche Street
Outdoor gym
BBQ, shelter and picnic areas
Landscaping
Fencing to canal
