[Speaker 1]
201,000 Australians live in residential aged care facilities. It's their home, and the place they're most comfortable. Of these older Australians, in any given year, up to 75% experience transfers to the emergency department. These transfers can be risky and cause stress, anxiety, and trauma. Many health-related issues can be managed outside of the busy emergency department. The reality is, all too often, some transfers can be avoided.
We have created the visual telehealth platform to help reduce these unnecessary transfers. We all want the best care for ourselves and our loved ones. However, the decision about how and where to provide the best care is not always clear cut. While GPs are the main care provider for the older person living in an aged care facility, they are not always available at short notice.
This is where the skilled emergency department staff can provide immediate and valuable support to an acutely unwell individual using simple technology, the visual telehealth technology. Visual telehealth can connect the older person and their family and the aged care facility staff with the emergency department of their local hospital. It takes away uncertainty and allows informed decisions to be made that result in the best outcome for the resident, their families, GPs, and the emergency departments. We are working together for the benefit of older Australians by creating a central communication point for all involved.
[Speaker 2]
Hey, mom. How you doing?
[Speaker 3]
So good you didn't have to go to the hospital.
[Speaker 1]
Using visual technology, we can enhance connectivity, ensuring the highest quality of care, a modern and essential move toward the future. Everything our health system can and should be.
