The purpose of this policy is to assist Youth Justice Centre employees to:
- determine the most suitable placement of young people on initial admission into custody
- assess and identify the need to place young people in a specialised unit
- provide protection for vulnerable groups of young people.
Factors considered in determining placement include:
- facilities at or near the Centre
- security level classification of the Centre
- age and gender
- vulnerability
- cultural identity.
