NSW Premier gets behind Vinnies CEO Sleepout with $50,000 pledge

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a one-night event held on one of the longest and coldest nights of the year. The Premier has also confirmed he will partake in the event in June.

Hundreds of CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders sleep outdoors to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness. 

The most recent 2021 Census figures show that on any given night 122,494 people nationwide go to bed without a secure home.

Over the last decade, homelessness in this state has increased by 27%.

The funding raised, including the $50,000 donation from the NSW Government, will help Vinnies provide essential services to the people who need them.

The NSW Government has committed to implementing a comprehensive housing plan including the creation of Homes NSW to better manage social housing and drive the delivery of more social and affordable housing.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said:

“Every year the Vinnies CEO Sleepout provides a glimpse into the unimaginable challenges that people living in homelessness face on a day-to-day basis."

“We face a significant challenge, but we have made delivering a comprehensive housing plan a core pillar of our agenda."

“I want to pay tribute to organisations like Vinnies who are at the pointy end of the housing crisis and thank them for their longstanding work advocating for and supporting people in dire need."
