400 radio communications sites delivered to expand the Public Safety Network
NSW Telco Authority has delivered 400 new and enhanced radio communications sites across the state under the Critical Communications Enhancement Program (CCEP).
The 400-site milestone was reached in December 2023 and marks an important expansion of the Public Safety Network (PSN).
Next to Australia’s triple zero emergency hotline, the PSN is the most critical communications network in NSW.
The PSN is a radio communications network that allows Emergency Services Organisations to communicate and coordinate responses to critical incidents and disasters on a single, shared network.
The PSN provides a secure platform for two-way, mission-critical communications for network users via radio handsets and other devices. The PSN helps to save lives.
Reaching this significant milestone means we are more than halfway towards completing the CCEP, with the network now providing coverage to 98.7% of the population.
With a footprint of over 419,044 square kilometres, the PSN covers an area larger than the entire states of Victoria and Tasmania combined.
The network’s expansion represents the biggest investment in critical communications infrastructure by the NSW Government in a generation.
