Affordable housing set for Shellharbour
Community focus
The 1.5 hectare development will be located on Wattle Road. Minister for the Illawarra John Ajaka said that Central Gardens will form a community for its residents, situated close to amenities and existing social networks.
Affordability scheme
The Central Gardens development is owned and run by The Housing Trust. The NSW Government has contributed $12.2 million to deliver the project under the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).
The NRAS is a Commonwealth and State funded program introduced in 2008 to deliver affordable rental homes nationally.
Seniors and people with a disability
The development is targeting people over 55 (over 45 for Aboriginal people) and people with a disability.
The new development is expected to be completed later this year.
