Changes passed in Parliament allow charities to raise money with games such as raffles, art unions, bingo and sweeps with less administration hassle.
Charities often don’t have the time and resources to wade through paperwork. With a streamlined administration process and clearer fundraising guidelines, they will now be able to focus on more important things.
The Community Gaming Bill 2018 replaces the Lotteries and Art Unions Act 1901. The changes strike a balance between removing unnecessary administrative burdens for charities and allowing NSW Fair Trading the power to target dishonest behaviour.
Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said these organisations are the life blood of local communities, providing critical support to the disadvantaged and vulnerable.
“That’s why it’s so important we make it as easy as possible for them to operate,” said Mr Kean.
“Funds raised through these games should be going to the people who need it most.”
