Got a dispute you can’t fix with your neighbour? Then take it to a Community Justice Centre (CJC) for free mediation in a safe and neutral environment.
The service allows people in dispute to put forward their point of view and listen to the concerns of others with the help of a professional mediator.
Mediators don’t make judgments, work equally with all parties, and in most cases an agreement will be reached. Mediation can also provide a less stressful option than bickering over the fence or taking costly legal action.
The service is available statewide and CJCs will arrange a session at a convenient location for all involved.
In 2014-15 1,348 mediations were carried out, and the top 10 neighbourhood mediation topics were about:
- Trees
- Fences
- Animals
- Privacy
- Children
- Access
- Retaining walls
- Common facilities
- Trespass
- Plumbing
