Young people seeking affordable housing will be matched with mature aged homeowners as part of a NSW Government pilot program designed to reduce youth homelessness.

Non-government organisation Holdsworth Community will deliver the program in the inner city and northern suburbs of Sydney, working with older homeowners and younger people and safeguarding all parties through a robust screening and matching process.

Rather than paying rent, shared expenses such as utilities are negotiated for the younger person to contribute to in lieu of weekly rent.

Families, Communities and Disability Services Minister Alister Henskens said the Home Share program is a win-win for the community.
“This is a multi-generational solution to addressing social isolation among seniors and helping millennials live more independently and learn some life skills along the way,” Mr Henskens said.
