Already home to important domestic tournaments, an improved Albert Park Baseball Complex will attract more regional, national and international baseball events to NSW. With more high-profile baseball events, Lismore will see an increase in tourism and economic growth.
The upgrades will include:
- playing field extensions
- improved turf quality
- electronic scoreboard and fencing
- landscaped garden areas, picnic tables and park shelters
- locker space, shower and toilet facilities
- team meeting rooms.
Baseball Australia plans to have three to six full-time staff working at Albert Park and 10 to 14 part-time or contracted staff during games and events.
The NSW Government is providing $4.95 million in funding from its Regional Growth Fund to support the enhancements.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the upgraded facility would cement Lismore’s position as the home of baseball in Australia.
“The funding means Lismore will have the very best baseball facilities in the country, capable of drawing more major baseball events and tournaments to the regional town,” Mr Barilaro said.
