Broken Hill Health Service Redevelopment works notification - Noise and vibration impacts
Noise and vibration impact to SARU and Oncology on west side of Broken Hill Hospital campus on Wednesday 31 July 2024.
About the works
Health Infrastructure is building a new Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit and upgrading the Emergency Department at Broken Hill Hospital to better serve the community now and in the future. We understand construction can disrupt consumers, visitors, staff, nearby residents, businesses, and road users. We prioritise the health and safety of the local community in all construction activities. For your safety, please follow instructions at all times.
Construction of the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit has begun, with Barpa Construction Services leading the work.
How the work will affect you
Noisy demolition work will take place in the Self Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU) and Oncology car park on Wednesday 31 July, from 8am to 5pm. This area is already fenced off as part of the construction zone.

Workers will use concrete saws and jackhammers to break up the car park for removal.
- Sawing: Starts at 8am.
- Jackhammering: 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm.
Water will be used to reduce dust, and some vibration is expected.
The demolition contractor will start clearing roadways and kerbs on Monday 29 July, but this will not affect hospital users before demolition begins on Wednesday 31 July.
