About us
With more than 7,500 staff, we are responsible for the health and wellbeing of people living in rural, remote, and suburban areas, covering almost 9,179 km2.
Our staff deliver world-class and innovative health care in five hospitals and 10 community health centres. Services are provided to people of all ages, from before birth, throughout child development to chronic and complex conditions, and palliative care.
Oral Health, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol, Population Health and Public Health services are available at multiple locations across the District. We are also home to Portland Tabulam Multi-Purpose Service which includes a residential aged care facility.
We have a strong and vibrant multicultural community with an estimated 20% of our residents born overseas. The main languages other than English spoken at home in our region are Arabic, Filipino, Hindi, Mandarin and Punjabi.
We are uniquely placed to draw on over 100 years of continuously caring for our community. From humble beginnings in 1860, and our historic Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial Hospital, to our brand new 14-storey Nepean Hospital clinical tower, our dedication has always been to provide exceptional patient and consumer care that is responsive to the needs of our community.

Fast facts about us
We have 139 proud and committed Aboriginal staff members across our region who have a unique role improving access and outcomes for our Aboriginal communities.
We are teachers – our largest hospital, Nepean Hospital, is an internationally renowned university teaching hospital. At Lithgow Hospital, we train clinicians on rural and regional care in a place where the community is small, but their hearts are big.
Our community are our staff – 70% of our staff live locally and are passionate about caring for their community and proud to be part of the team at facilities and services.
We love research and knowledge sharing – over 250 staff research projects are supported each year.
More than 5,000 babies are born each year – that’s almost 100 bundles of joy every week.
Keeping busy – around 24,000 people undergo surgery each year. That’s 65 operations each day.
Need urgent care? We have you covered. More than 122,500 people come through our emergency department doors every year.
We see upwards of 1 million patients for a scheduled appointment each year – that’s an amazing 3,114 appointments a day!
