Parramatta Light Rail Community Fun Day and weekly giveaways support Church Street businesses
The Parramatta Light Rail project is supporting local businesses in the Church Street dining precinct with a fun, family-friendly community event and a slew of weekly dining voucher giveaways to attract people into the city and support local businesses, ahead of passenger services in the coming months.
Put Sunday 23 June in your diary and head to Prince Alfred Square on Parramatta’s Church Street from 10am to 2pm for a family-friendly experience at our free Community Day event. All are welcome.
Executive Director Community and Place Julie Sundkvist said it will be the first time locals and visitors will have the opportunity to explore a light rail vehicle on display at the adjacent Prince Alfred Square stop.
“The upcoming Community Day is a great opportunity to bring your family and friends along to check out and learn more about the Parramatta Light Rail and how it will service 28,000 people a day,” Ms Sundkvist said.
The tram is one of 13 state-of-the-art light rail vehicles being commissioned to service the Stage 1 network.
“It will be also the first time the community will experience the stop’s accessibility features, such as ramps and low-level platforms, which are designed for easy boarding,” Ms Sundkvist said.
The project is supporting Church Street businesses during this vital testing phase with a new eight-week dining voucher giveaway campaign for customers who spend $20 or more in Parramatta’s iconic precinct.
More than 60 restaurants, pubs and cafes are participating in the latest business support initiative, and you can find them all in our new annual Restaurant Guide – out now!
“Our latest business support initiatives continue to show we are committed to helping businesses on Church Street thrive,” Ms Sundkvist said.
“These businesses will soon benefit from around 16,000 people using Church Street light rail stop each day.”
“I encourage everyone to grab a copy or download the latest Restaurant Guide, head out to Church Street for lunch, dinner or a snack and send in your receipt for a chance to win weekly dining vouchers.”
With eight $150 dining vouchers to be won each week, it’s the perfect time to head to Parramatta’s Church Street precinct for a meal. But hurry, as the campaign ends on Thursday 1 August 2024. Terms and conditions apply.
Ms Sundkvist said it's been fantastic to see more people come into Parramatta to check out the new light rail vehicles on the move as testing and commissioning progresses between Westmead and Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD.
“Light rail vehicles are moving past as part of testing every 20-30 minutes, giving diners on Church Street the chance to witness how Parramatta Light Rail will transform travel within the precinct.
“The new Operational Control Centre in Camellia is also being tested and the facility will support around 150 local jobs when services commence.”
Testing and commissioning remains a vital step to ensure the safety and reliability of the network before passenger services can commence.
Ms Sundkvist said the public is reminded to stop, listen and look around when walking, riding or driving near the Light Rail.
“Always stop, listen and look around before crossing the tracks,” she said.
Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 connects Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia with a 12-kilomretre two-way track and 16 light rail stops. Passenger services are expected to commence mid this year.
