Information for pre-2004 teachers
Who is a pre-2004 teacher?
A pre-2004 teacher is any teacher who taught in a NSW school before 1 October 2004 and has not had a break from teaching for 5 or more years.
The information on this page provides details on when and how to complete your first maintenance period.
Professional development requirements
As a pre-2004 teacher you need to complete 100 hours of PD.
To find out how to complete your first maintenance of accreditation period read our transition arrangements.
Maintenance due dates
As a pre-2004 teacher you have an extended timeframe to submit your maintenance.
If you did not take a Leave of Absence and your due date falls between:
- 31 December 2022 and 31 December 2023 submit your maintenance up until 31 December 2023
- 31 December 2024 and 31 December 2025 submit your maintenance between the start of Term 2, 2024 and 31 December 2025.
Once you submit your maintenance of accreditation, NESA will make an accreditation decision and if approved, your new maintenance period will start the following day.
This optional extension to your due date is not reflected in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
Leave of Absence teachers
If you took a Leave of Absence with NESA during your current maintenance period, the extended timeframe does not apply.
Instead, you will need to submit your maintenance of accreditation by the due date listed in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
Benefits of submitting early
If you have already completed 100 hours of PD, you can submit your maintenance earlier than required.
If you don't submit your maintenance, any further PD you complete will add to your current maintenance period.
The sooner you submit your maintenance of accreditation, the sooner you can count any future PD towards your next maintenance period.
Submitting early also lets you choose when your next maintenance due date falls, instead of remaining the 31 December.
This only applies to the first maintenance period for pre-2004 teachers.
How to submit
- Log in to your NESA online account (eTAMS).
- Check your employment details are correct.
- Declare that you have met your maintenance requirements.
- Submit your maintenance of accreditation.
