Information for pre-2004 teachers
Your professional development requirements have changed
Your professional development requirements have changed
Effective from 16 August 2024 the professional development (PD) requirements for teachers maintaining Proficient, Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher accreditation have been changed.
NESA has removed the Accredited and Elective PD categories to give teachers more flexibility in completing their required 100 hours of PD.
NESA is currently re-developing eTAMS to reflect these changes. You can continue to log PD in eTAMS or offline and submit your maintenance of accreditation when due and once you complete 100 hours of PD. All PD activities already logged will count towards your required PD hours.
Find out more about these changes and watch our video for more information.
Who is a pre-2004 teacher?
A pre-2004 teacher is any teacher who taught in a NSW school before 1 October 2004 and has not had a break from teaching for 5 or more years.
The information on this page provides details on when and how to complete your first maintenance period.
Maintenance due dates
Due date between 31 December 2022 and 31 December 2023
If you did not take a Leave of Absence and your due date fell between 31 December 2022 and 31 December 2023, you are overdue with meeting your maintenance requirements and need to submit your maintenance as soon as possible.
Once we make an accreditation decision, your next maintenance period will start from 12 February 2024 regardless of when you finalise your maintenance.
Due date between 31 December 2024 and 31 December 2025
If you did not take a Leave of Absence and your due date falls between 31 December 2024 and 31 December 2025, you can now submit your maintenance.
You have until 31 December 2025 to finalise your maintenance of accreditation.
Once you submit your maintenance of accreditation, NESA will make an accreditation decision and if approved, your new maintenance period will start the following day. You can then start logging PD activities to contribute towards your next maintenance period.
This optional extension to your due date is not reflected in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
Pre-2004 teachers who took a Leave of Absence
If you took a Leave of Absence with NESA during your current maintenance period, the extended timeframe does not apply.
Instead, you will need to submit your maintenance of accreditation by the due date listed in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
How to submit
- Log in to your NESA online account (eTAMS).
- Check your employment details are correct.
- Declare that you have met your maintenance requirements.
- Submit your maintenance of accreditation.
