Begin your application in eTAMS
Starting your Proficient Teacher application
Follow the steps on this page to get started on your Proficient Teacher application.
Complete the online Orientation Course
Complete NESA’s mandatory online Proficient Teacher Orientation Course. You must complete the course before you submit your application and you can complete it as often as you need to.
We recommend you:
- complete the Orientation Course within 3 months of becoming Provisionally or Conditionally accredited
- attend a NESA information session on Working towards Proficient Teacher accreditation.
Talk with your principal/Teacher Accreditation Delegate (TA Delegate)
Discuss:
- your readiness to begin your application
- the allocation of an Accreditation Supervisor.
Your Accreditation Supervisor will support you through the process to achieve Proficient Teacher accreditation.
Teacher Accreditation Delegate
A Teacher Accreditation Delegate (TA Delegate) is a teacher assigned by an early childhood employer to perform teacher accreditation functions as set out in E2.3 of the TA Manual. They:
- must be accredited at Proficient Teacher or above
- have some seniority over the teachers for whom they make an accreditation recommendation or verification
- are not necessarily the ‘Service Director’ of an early childhood service
- can be working in the same service as the teacher(s) or working elsewhere for the same employer.
Contact your employer to identify who the TA Delegate is for your service. If there is no eligible teacher to carry out the function of the TA Delegate at the employer, contact NESA at ECTaccreditation@nesa.nsw.edu.au
Get your Accreditation Supervisor allocated
Confirm the name of the school or service that has agreed to support you with your Proficient Teacher accreditation in your NESA online account (eTAMS). This then allows your principal/TA Delegate to allocate your Accreditation Supervisor in eTAMS. Your Accreditation Supervisor must be accredited at Proficient Teacher or above.
Early childhood teachers
If your TA Delegate is the only Proficient Teacher within your employer, the TA Delegate can also be your Accreditation Supervisor.
NESA may allocate Accreditation Supervisors to teachers working for employers without access to a Proficient Teacher.
Early childhood teachers who are unsure of how to be supported while working towards Proficient Teacher should contact NESA at ECTaccreditation@nesa.nsw.edu.au.
Read the Standards
Read and understand the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the Proficient Teacher level.
Issues that may affect your application
Learn more about issues that may affect your application:
The school or service or employer that agrees to support you needs to know you and your practice, so you should approach a school or service where you work regularly.
If the school or service can’t support you now, discuss a timeline that might be possible for future support.
Approach the principal/TA Delegate at the school or service or the employer of where you most often teach.
If a school or service cannot support you in your accreditation, reach out to another where you have been working. A teaching block of 6 to 10 weeks may assist casual teachers to seek the support of a school or service.
