NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell today announced the NSW Government had accepted the recommendations of the Independent Commission Against Corruption’s report on the management of coal resources.
ICAC handed down its third report arising from Operations Acacia and Jasper on the granting of mining rights entitled ‘Reducing the opportunities and incentives for corruption in the State’s management of coal resources’ making 26 recommendations.
“The recommendations from Commissioner Ipp go a long way to ensuring the sort of corruption in the handling of mining licences exposed by ICAC will never occur again," Mr O'Farrell said.
“The revelations have shocked the entire State. It’s made me even more determined to ensure we have strong watchdogs in this State so this sort of corruption cannot happen again.
“The NSW Government has backed this with record funding for the State’s independent integrity watchdogs,” he said.
