To encourage communities to promote road safety in their local area, the NSW Government has allocated $400,000 in grants through the latest round of the Community Road Safety Grants Program.
Grants of up to $5000 are available for road safety projects that involve community engagement. These projects should improve road safety awareness in local communities.
Larger grants of up to $30,000 are also available. Detailed project plans will need to be provided for these grants, showing expenditure, project stages and time frames.
The NSW Government is investing $1.6 million in grants over four years through the Community Road Safety Fund.
Some of the 76 road safety initiatives already funded by the NSW Government since 2015 include:
- road safety workshops targeting culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- road safety seminar series for newly arrived migrants
- driver mentoring assistance for disadvantaged youth
- awareness campaign targeting driveway safety.
Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said that the key to identifying and addressing local road safety issues is working with communities themselves.
“We know the value of local knowledge, so I encourage all community groups to put forward ideas to help bring their local road toll towards zero,” Ms Pavey said.
“Last year, 392 people lost their lives on our roads. These are not just numbers, they are real people lost to their families forever.”
Applications close Sunday 10 June 2018.
