Landmark service to help doctors understand medicinal cannabis
The NSW Medicinal Cannabis Advisory Service will help doctors across NSW quickly access onshore medicinal products for their palliative care patients, as well as provide expert clinical advice on prescribing for other patients.
The statewide advisory service will start in January 2018 and operate for three years.
Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said the service would support doctors and give them the confidence to decide if medicinal cannabis would benefit their patients.
“Doctors anywhere in NSW can ring the service for guidance from leading clinicians in this emerging area of medicine,” Mr Hazzard said.
It is part of the NSW Government’s $21 million investment in exploring the therapeutic potential of medicinal cannabis, including world-first clinical trials.
