The $1.5 billion in funding from the upcoming NSW Budget will help replace 134 of the state’s ageing bus fleet, add 42 buses and deliver 3300 more services a week.
To help ease increased congestion, the new bus fleet will include six double-deck buses to replace the bendy-buses.
New and enhanced services will be added to growth centres such as Macquarie Park, Olympic Park, and Marsden Park.
Residential areas outside of Sydney such as Huntlee in the Hunter, Calderwood in the Illawarra and Springwood in the Blue Mountains will receive enhanced services and better intra-regional links.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the funding would also create new routes, provide extended operating hours and deliver bus priority infrastructure where it is needed the most.
“This is not just about adding more services, but also allowing for future growth,” Mr Constance said.
