Pirtek Stadium demolition begins
The new 30,000-seat stadium will cater for larger crowds and provide an improved game day experience.
Minister for Sport and Minister for Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, said the new venue will bring major benefits to the Western Sydney economy.
“Western Sydney Stadium will not only attract world class sporting and entertainment events, but offer Western Sydney’s economy a massive shot in the arm, employing 1200 people during construction and more than 900 people once operational."
Work to demolish the existing stadium is expected to be completed by mid this year and the new stadium will open to fans in 2019.
Hundreds of items from the old stadium, including seats, catering equipment, lockers, lighting and corporate furniture were gifted to community sporting organisations from as far away as Moree and Wagga Wagga, with larger items repurposed at WIN Stadium and McDonald Jones Stadium in the Hunter.
