The $2.1 billion project South West Rail Link will run between Glenfield and Leppington in Sydney’s South West. Construction has been completed a year ahead of schedule and $300 million under budget. Sydney Train services will start in early 2015, having originally been scheduled to start in 2016.
NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian attended an inspection of the new Edmondson Park Station recently. Mr Baird described the project as “a catalyst for economic development, regional growth and job creation” in South Western Sydney.
Ms Berejiklian said customers using the South West Rail Link will benefit from world class facilities including the upgraded Glenfield Station, two brand new stations and interchanges at Edmondson Park and Leppington, and 1,250 customer parking spaces.
Sydney Trains are set to begin their testing, commissioning and staff training processes in preparation for the start of customer services next year.
“Once this critical testing and training phase is complete, the South West Rail Link will be open to customers.”
