New ticket scalping reforms will stop tickets for events from being resold at inflated prices.
Ticket prices to sporting and entertainment events in NSW will be capped at a maximum 10 per cent of the initial sale price, under proposed amendments to the Fair Trading Act 1987.
Other changes to support eventgoers include banning ticket bots that allow scalpers to buy tickets in bulk.
Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said the reforms would make tickets more accessible to the fans.
“The reforms also aim to make it clear that tickets resold within the new laws should not be cancelled by event organisers or venues simply because the ticket has been acquired in the secondary market,” Mr Kean said.
A Bill is being prepared to put before Parliament as part of a suite of ‘Consumers First’ reforms by the NSW Government.
