Joined by the Western Sydney Wanderers and road trauma survivor Tristan Kennedy, Minister for Roads Duncan Gay announced a New Year’s resolution and plea – bring the road toll down Towards Zero.
Having lost 10 lives on NSW roads already this year, Mr Gay said partnerships like this are vital to ensure NSW has one of the best road safety cultures in the world.
“We can invest billions of dollars in upgrades and new road infrastructure, but we need everyone to help us protect our most valuable commodity by driving safely – the people of NSW,” Mr Gay said.
After hearing Tristan’s tragic story, Western Sydney Wanderers Chief Executive John Tsatsimas said he instantly knew that this was something he and his team had to get behind.
“Young people like Tristan are too often involved in road accidents and when a young person with so much to look forward to is seriously injured or loses their life, we’re all affected,” Mr Tsatsimas said.
“Silly decisions on the road have the ability to change lives forever – it’s only right that our players got behind the Towards Zero campaign.”
Last year, 384 people lost their lives on NSW roads, 34 more than in 2015.
