This Charter of Rights outlines how the NSW Department of Communities and Justice will support young people leaving care as they transition into independent living. Learn what support is needed from young people leaving care and how to support them.

The Care Leavers' Charter of Rights is written by young people who have previously left out-of-home care. 

The Charter describes what caseworkers, members of the Department of Communities and Justice and other non-government agencies involved in a young person's care can do to help them transition smoothly into adulthood.

It also outlines a young person's rights in out-of-home care and how to communicate their needs clearly.
