NESA has updated maintenance of accreditation requirements for Proficient Teacher accreditation. Principals/Service Directors are no longer required to attest that a teacher maintains their practice. Instead, when a Proficient Teacher finalises their maintenance of accreditation, their accreditation will come directly to NESA for a decision.
Sections 5, 11 and 14 of the NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual (TA Manual) have been updated.
The updated TA Manual takes effect on 10 November 2023 by publication of this Official Notice.
This change brings NSW into line with other states and territories. Employers remain responsible for notifying NESA if a teacher does not meet Proficient Teacher requirements.
These changes are about recognising that fully accredited teachers:
- are qualified and meet child safety requirements
- have already met rigorous standards to be accredited at Proficient
- continue to demonstrate competence through their work
- engage in continual professional development.
