New Auslan K-10 Syllabus
The new Auslan K–10 Syllabus is now available on the NSW Curriculum.

The new Auslan K–10 Syllabus is now available on the NSW Curriculum.
For the first time, schools have the option to offer Auslan to students.
Schools can plan and prepare to teach the new K–10 syllabus in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The new syllabus will be implemented in NSW schools in 2026.
Key features:
- Available as part of the NSW Curriculum Reform.
- For the first time NSW students will be able to learn Auslan as their first language or an additional language through this new syllabus.
- The new syllabus explicitly outlines essential learning, making it clear for teachers to program for teaching and learning.
- Gives students who are first language Auslan users the opportunity to formally study the language of their community.
- Provides students with skills to communicate with other students and community members who use Auslan.
- Through studying Auslan, students develop the essential skills needed to communicate.
- Access content points (K–6) and Life Skills outcomes and content (7–10) provide access for students with intellectual disability.
Schools have access to support materials including teaching advice on the NSW Curriculum to assist with implementation. More resources will be made available over time including an online, accredited professional development on NESA’s online learning hub.
