The new Geography 11–12 syllabuses are now available on the Digital Curriculum:
Schools can plan and prepare to teach the new syllabuses in 2023. The new syllabuses will be taught in NSW schools from 2024. The Geography 11–12 syllabus will be examined in the HSC for the first time in 2025.
Key features:
- New contemporary content, a more global focus on geography, and choice and flexibility in the studies students can take in each focus area.
- Updated time allocations and content enable greater depth of study.
- New requirements and content on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures and other Indigenous peoples in a global context.
- Greater reference to contemporary spatial technologies such as the use of augmented and virtual reality.
- An increased focus on applying knowledge using geographical inquiry skills and tools.
Schools will have access to support materials including teaching advice on the Digital Curriculum website to assist with implementation. Support materials will be added to over time.
Sample HSC examination questions will be available Term 1, 2023.
