Australian passport
Option 1: If your passport details are stolen or exposed in a data breach
What: Replace or renew your passport
Why: You can still travel, but replacing or renewing your passport is a smart way to protect your identity, so it can't be used a proof of identity or to apply for credit, grants, products, or property in your name
How: Go online or visit a participating Australia Post outlet
Contact your nearest Australian embassy, consulate, or mission if you're overseas.
Option 2: If your passport is physically lost or stolen
What: Cancel your passport
Why: You’re legally required to report when your passport is lost or stolen
How: Notify the Australian Passport Office
If you’re overseas, contact your nearest Australian diplomatic or consular mission.

Birth and marriage certificate
What: Contact us to let us know that your certificate is missing or stolen
Why: We can help put a block on it, so it can’t be used as proof of identity or to apply for credit, grants, products, or property in your name
How: You can also report your certificate as lost or stolen online with Service NSW

Driver licence (NSW)
Option 1
What: Replace your driver licence to get a new card number
Why: This prevents your stolen card from being used for proof of identity or to apply for credit, grants, products, or property in your name
How: Replace your card online via your MyServiceNSW account and start using your card details straight away
You can also replace your card at a Service NSW service centre
Option 2
What: Ask for a reissued driver licence
Why: This will give you all new details, including a new licence number (and card number)
How: If you’re eligible for a reissue, you’ll need to visit a Service NSW service centre

Medicare card
What: Replace your card to get a new expiry date and updated card number.
Why: Stop criminals using your details for identity checks or to apply for loans and credit.
How: Request a card online via MyGov or the Express Plus Medicare app, by calling the Medicare Identity Theft Helpdesk or at a Service Australia service centre.
Digital cards can be ready to use straight away through the mobile app.
Physical Medicare cards take 3-4 weeks to arrive by post.
