Regional roads will play a key role in the NSW Government’s Rebuilding NSW infrastructure plan.
The $3.7 billion plan for regional road is set to include:
- $2 billion for upgrades to the Newell, Golden, New England and Great Western Highways, under the Regional Road Freight Corridor Program.
- Over $500 million for extra overtaking lanes along Newell Highway, upgrades between Narrabri and Moree, and bypasses for Parkes and Coonabarabran.
- $700 million in extra funding for the Fixing Country Roads and Bridges for the Bush programs.
Deputy Premier Troy Grant said NSW Government is ensuring regional NSW gets its fair share.
“We have put communities across regional NSW in the driving seat of our government, investing in the areas that need it most”, he said.
“Better roads are safer roads and for too long our communities have had to put up with substandard roads.”
Roads Minister Duncan Gay said the State infrastructure strategy is all about “planning for the future” with the amount of freight travelling through regional NSW almost set to double by 2031.
