The grant is part of the $1.8 million recovery package (announced in February) for the Blue Mountains community after the devastating October bushfires last year. It’s also in addition to the $11.4 million NSW and Commonwealth Government funding provided immediately after the bushfires for emergency assistance and clean-up efforts.
NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services Stuart Ayres said that the Blue Mountains community had demonstrated amazing resilience in the post bushfire period, and that the funds would make a real difference to the community.
“Many people living in the Blue Mountains remain vulnerable and traumatised by the bushfires,” he said.
“Some lost their homes, possessions and pets and many are still struggling to overcome fears and other emotional and financial injuries. All up, the fires destroyed more than 200 properties and significantly damaged around 100 more.”
Applying for funding
Round one of applications are open for social and economic recovery-focused projects, or a combination of both. Applications close 8 June 2014. Round two will fund social recovery projects that may require more time to develop.
