New funding to support ex-police officers
The NSW Government is giving $2 million to a program which supports former police officers and their families.
The BACKUP for Life program links injured officers and their families with tailored support programs that address the after-effects of trauma.
NSW Minister for Police Troy Grant said many former officers carry physical and mental scars for many years after their policing career is over.
"Having spent most of my career as a serving officer, I know all too well that police are often expected to be the pillars of strength in situations when those around them are in their darkest hours. We cannot underestimate how significant a burden this is and how adversely an officer's wellbeing can be affected."
BACKUP for Life also supports former police officers adjust to a civilian lifestyle and find new jobs.
