Pest animals like feral pigs, wild dogs, foxes, and rabbits cause a lot of damage. They destroy crops and pastures, prey on livestock, attack native species, spread weeds, degrade water sources and spread disease.
All rural landholders in NSW, whether you own livestock or not, have a shared responsibility to manage these pests. Participating in a group pest control program helps you meet your General Biosecurity Duty under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015.
Join a group pest control program
Each year Local Land Services coordinates hundreds of group programs using a variety of control methods to reduce the damage caused by vertebrate pest animals.
We encourage all landholders to participate for the largest impact on pest populations.
To find out more about group control programs in your area, contact Local Land Services on 1300 795 299 or look up your local office. We can help you and your neighbours take part in these control programs.
Join Feral Fighters
Feral Fighter programs are supported by Local Land Services to reduce pest animal populations over large areas with sustainable outcomes.
Feral Fighters are local champions working with neighbours to manage pest animals. They protect agricultural production and native biodiversity by using effective pest control methods.
By joining your local Feral Fighters program, you commit to your neighbours, community, local industries, and the environment.
Watch the video below to hear from landholders about the benefits of joining their local Feral Fighters group.

Feral Fighters introduction
Read transcriptWhat support will I receive as a Feral Fighter?
Feral Fighters receive local support and resources, depending on the targeted pest. This can include:
- free pesticide training, available in-person or online
- access to baits for controlling pests like feral pigs, wild dogs, foxes, and rabbits
- local bait collection locations for easy pick-up
- up-to-date information, advice, and tailored support from your Local Land Services team.
How to get involved in Feral Fighters
To become a Feral Fighter, you can join a local group or recruit your neighbours to start your own group. Contact your local office or biosecurity officer for more information.
Pesticide training
Baiting can be an effective control method to control pest animals.
To access bait products for wild dogs, foxes, feral pigs and rabbits, you need to have completed either:
- an AQF3 level chemical accreditation course, or
- a Vertebrate Pesticide Induction Training (VPIT) course offered online or in person.
This training ensures you comply with legislation and use pesticides safely and effectively.
Local Land Services online VPIT training can be completed at any time, at no cost.
Reporting pest animal activity
Identifying pest animal movements and behaviour helps target baiting campaigns and control programs.
Report pest animal activity on FeralScan.
You can also report this to your local biosecurity officer or Local Land Services office.
