What happened
‘Threat actors’ accessed a third party supplier’s storage drive used by TissuPath.
TissuPath found the issue and stopped the breach from continuing. They’ve also let all doctors and the relevant government agencies know about the breach event.
What was accessed?
The breach could have exposed pathology requests and records of people who needed cancer checks from 2011 to 2020.
What the agency is doing
TissuPath is working closely with the National Cyber Security Coordinator and other NSW and Commonwealth agencies to look at what data has been affected, its impact, and what steps to take.
What an affected individual can do
Be alert for scams.
Be alert. If anyone contacts you and claims to be from TissuPath or a government agency such as NSW Health. They may get in touch with you about this breach via email, letter, phone call, or text message.
- Check your online accounts for unusual activity.
- Check for and report any suspicious activity in your bank account or credit card.
- Don’t click on links in emails or SMS claiming to be from TissuPath.
- Don’t give your details to someone who calls about the breach and claims to be from TissuPath.
- Don’t share your password or give remote access to your computer or other device.
