We’re excited to announce our annual NAIDOC exhibition opens to to the public this Friday 28 July 2023.
NAIDOC week was held on 2 July to 9 July in 2023, but celebrations are continuing throughout the month. To celebrate NAIDOC week, the Boom Gate Gallery will be hosting the CSNSW NAIDOC Art Competition Exhibition - an annual competition conceived and organised by the CSNSW - DCJ Aboriginal Strategy and Policy Unit.
The competition is based on this year’s NAIDOC theme - For Our Elders - which acknowledges the dedication and commitment that Aboriginal Elders have shown for generations. We thank them for continuing to be our storytellers, lore keepers, sources of culture, and champions for change.
The CSNSW NAIDOC Art Competition was first held in 2020, and was a means to provide inmates with additional activities and a creative outlet when other programs were limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. The event was so successful, it has now become a highly anticipated annual event for inmates, staff members, and the local community.
The exhibition opens at Boom Gate Gallery on Thursday 27 July from 5 pm to 7 pm and the work will be on show until Sunday 6 August 2023.
“Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.
They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones.
We pay our respects to the Elders we’ve lost and to those who continue fighting for us across all our Nations and we pay homage to them.
