Behavioural insights in NSW

The Behavioural Insights Unit (BIU) draws on the latest research from the behavioural and social sciences about how people make decisions, and uses this to design better public policy.

Who we are

BIU test their solutions using the most robust scientific methodology so they have evidence about what works in improving outcomes for citizens.

The BIU was established in 2012 as part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and works across all NSW Government clusters. The team have a strong track record of success across a range of policy areas and are widely recognised for the strength of their results. In 2018 the BIU were nominated finalists in the Prime Minister’s Awards and Apolitical Team of the Year.
