Community and consumer engagement
Western NSW LHD is committed to working in partnership with health consumers and communities to achieve better health together. We actively seek the participation of consumers in assessing, planning, designing, implementing and reviewing solutions to the problems that affect them, their families, and their communities.
There are different ways you can be involved, including participating in consultations and yarning circles, providing feedback on publications, being a consumer/community representative on committees or advisory groups or working on co-design projects. Support, orientation and training is available for all consumers, carers and community representatives.
Many of our consultation options can be conducted both in person and online, either way we would like to hear from you.

You said, we heard
From time to time we will provide feedback to the public about previous consultation activities we have undertaken. You can find this information below or outcomes from other consultation activities may also be available at Engage Western NSW Health.
In 2021 the Western NSW Local Health District begun consulting with communities and health staff to develop an Integrated Clinical Services Plan for Dubbo, Narromine and Wellington.
The Plan will help inform how both services and infrastructure would be developed across the three locations.
The public were invited to complete an online survey about the clinical service plan as well as attend community drop in sessions held in each community.
Below are information sheets outlining the feedback received for each community:
- Dubbo – Community Consultation Feedback Information Sheet (PDF 578.68KB)
- Wellington – Community Consultation Feedback Information Sheet (PDF 579.04KB)
- Narromine – Community Consultation Feedback Information Sheet (PDF 595.52KB)

Community engagement platform
Engage Western NSW Health
Engage Western NSW Health is the online community engagement platform for Western NSW Local Health District. It is a central space for collaboration and information sharing with consumers, carers and communities in Western NSW.
You can provide feedback as we plan, develop and consult on projects. Add your voice to conversations shaping the design and delivery of health services. You can also join the Online Community Network to receive up-to-date information on engagement opportunities and training events.
Sub-regional health planning committees
Sub-regional health planning committees provide a forum for community and stakeholder collaboration in health service planning. Each committee has staff and community representatives and meet quarterly to discuss local priorities.
Community representatives should live in the region and be willing to share feedback on local issues and priorities.
Central West sub-regional health planning committee has representatives from the communities of Dubbo, Narromine, Peak Hill, Trangie and Wellington.
Northern sub-regional health planning committee has representatives from the communities of Bourke, Brewarrina, Collarenebri, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge and Walgett.
If you are interested in being a community representative or would like more information or a copy of the terms of reference, please email WNSWLHD-Community@health.nsw.gov.au
Volunteering
Volunteers play an important role in supporting our health services and communities.
Some ways volunteers can be involved include:
- patient support
- hospital wayfinding (helping patients or visitors to locate services within the hospital)
- social support
- leisure activity support
- community exercise leaders.
All Western NSW LHD volunteers need to complete some forms and checks before starting.
