This course provides opportunities for students to develop their skills and knowledge of Chinese. Through tasks associated with a range of texts and text types, students gain insight into the language and culture of Chinese-speaking communities.
Topics and sub-topics studied through 3 prescribed themes, the individual, the Chinese-speaking communities and the changing world provide contexts in which students develop their communication skills in Chinese and their knowledge and understanding of language and culture.
Preliminary (120 indicative hours)
Students will develop skills in, and knowledge and understanding of the Chinese language through the study of prescribed themes and associated topics.
HSC (120 indicative hours)
Students will gain a broader and deeper understanding of the Chinese language and will extend and refine their communication skills in Chinese through the study of the prescribed themes and associated topics.
The individual
This theme enables students to explore aspects of their personal world, for example, sense of self, aspirations for the future, personal values, opinions, ideas, and relationships with others. At the same time, this theme also enables the student to study topics from the perspective of other individuals.
Chinese-speaking communities
This theme explores topics from the perspective of groups within those communities or the communities as a whole and encourages students to reflect on their own and other cultures.
The changing world
This theme enables students to explore change as it affects aspects of the world of work and other topics such as current issues and youth issues.
