NESA’s regulatory processes focus on what matters most to reduce compliance and administrative burden on schools, while also ensuring critical school standards relating to the safety and education of students are maintained.

Responsible Persons
Individual non-government schools are responsible for ensuring up-to-date records of a school’s Responsible Persons are maintained in RANGS Online. The Guide to updating Responsible Persons in RANGS Online (PDF 581.14KB) explains how to do this.
Responsible Persons are required to make annual declarations in relation to being a fit and proper person. The Fit and Proper Person Statutory Declaration template (PDF 233.01KB) (under the New South Wales Oaths Act 1900) may be used by schools to meet their legislative requirements.

NSW school registration and accreditation manuals
In NSW non-government schools must be registered to operate and optionally be accredited for the RoSA and HSC. Read the manuals that are used to ensure compliance with the Education Act.

RANGS Online
RANGS Online is a secure website for the registration and accreditation of non-government schools, and school providers of courses for overseas students.
RANGS Online is used for a variety of reasons including:
- applying for registration or approvals
- renewal applications
- updating information by submitting notifications to NESA
- submitting annual school reports to NESA.
Typically, an individual non-government school's RANGS Online account is managed by the principal, but additional users may also be granted access. Applications and notifications for schools that are members of a registration system are managed by the school's proprietor and approved authority.
If a RANGS Online account holder needs a password reset, they are to send an email request from their school email account, identifying the account username to:

The NSW Registration Process for the Government Schooling System Manual describes the process for the NESA to monitor and provide advice on the compliance by the government schooling system with minimum standards.

School providers
Proformas
Proformas for document audits have been developed to help school providers or proposed school providers identify the:
- policies, procedures and documentation necessary for initial approval
- documentation to be maintained during any period of approval to demonstrate compliance with the requirements.
The proformas list the required documentation as detailed in the Guidelines.
Once completed, the proforma provides a useful checklist and a record of the location of the school provider’s policies and procedures.
It is not mandatory for schools to use the proformas.

Template
A Template - statutory declaration by PEO of school provider (DOCX 72.31KB) is available for the Principal Executive Officer (PEO). A copy must be maintained by the school provider and may be requested when making an application or notifying NESA of a change of PEO.
