Support a teacher maintaining Proficient Teacher accreditation
When a teacher is at risk of accreditation suspension
What happens when a teacher fails to meet requirements
A teacher will be at risk of their accreditation being suspended if they do not:
- submit their maintenance to NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) by the end of their timeframe
- meet the professional development (PD) requirements
- provide their professional development log within 28 days if we request it.
If they fail to meet their maintenance of accreditation requirements, we provide them with 14 days’ written notice of an intention to suspend their accreditation.
The notice includes:
- grounds for the suspension of their accreditation
- advice that they may make a submission to NESA about the intention to suspend their accreditation within 14 days.
At the end of the 14 day notice period, if the grounds to suspend their accreditation remain, we will:
- notify the teacher that their accreditation has been suspended
- immediately remove them from the NSW Public Register of Teachers.
A teacher whose accreditation is suspended is:
- no longer accredited
- not eligible for employment as a teacher in any NSW school or service.
Review of suspended accreditation
We review the suspension of teachers who fail to meet the maintenance of accreditation requirements every 3 months to determine if the grounds for suspension remain.
If the grounds remain for 12 months or more, we may decide to revoke the teacher’s accreditation.
