New process for overpayments to providers March 2023
From 15 March 2023 the Department of Education is introducing a new process for identification notification and recovery of overpayments made to training providers under Smart and Skilled contracts.
The Department of Education is aware that inaccuracies in Training Activity Data submitted by training providers have resulted in overpayments being made.
The data inaccuracy occurs when an organisation submits Training Activity Data with a payable outcome, receives a subsidy (and loading if applicable) for the Unit of Competency (UoC) Outcome Achievement Stage(s) reached but then subsequently changes the UoC Outcome Code in their reported data to a non-payable outcome.
Changes to overpayment process
If the Department determines an overpayment of subsidies and loadings has been made because of the incorrect reporting of Training Activity Data, the Department will notify the training provider. The training provider will be given time to dispute whether the relevant payment of subsidies and loadings was an overpayment.

More information about the new overpayment processes will be available in Smart and Skilled Updates as well as provider webinars. The Department will also be in touch with impacted registered training providers about their existing overpayments.
