Far West LHD encourage applications for 2020 Enrolled Nurse Scholarships
The Far West Local Health District is encouraging all aspiring nurses across NSW to apply for the 2020 Enrolled Nurse Scholarships which cover course fees and a guarantee of a job offer upon completion.
Applications are now open for scholarships to study nursing across the state, including at Far West LHD.
'Nursing is one of the most rewarding careers and this is an opportunity to apply for a scholarship that includes course fees for a Diploma of Nursing and an opportunity to work as a Enrolled Nurse with Far West LHD when you successfully complete the course,' said Timothy O'Neill, Manager Nursing Leadership & Workforce Development, Nursing & Midwifery Directorate Far West LHD.
Two scholarships were awarded in Far West LHD last year and both these ENs will be offered employment opportunities with the LHD.
Enrolled Nurse Starcha Meehan is one of those scholarship winners and is nearly finished her course.
'This scholarship has been a big blessing for myself,' she said. 'It has provided me the opportunity to progress with my career goals and to continue with pursuing my educational dreams. It was a huge relief to receive the scholarship, given me a peace of mind and taken away the financial burden.'
Starcha said her career goals are revolved around nursing.
'I am very passionate about this field (and) I hope to be a Registered Nurse one day and from there, further on studies to specialise in mental health. Receiving the scholarship has meant so very much to me and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity and support provided along the way,'
Mr O'Neill said our Enrolled Nurses work across a variety of clinical settings in the health service including in acute medical and surgical units, operating theatres and mental health.
'Our ENs are a valuable part of our nursing workforce and I strongly encourage anyone considering a career in nursing to apply for a scholarship. We are particularly keen for Aboriginal people to apply for the scholarships, to help build the Aboriginal workforce in our LHD and improve local health outcomes.'
The NSW Government is investing $2.8 billion to recruit 8,300 extra frontline staff over the next four years, including an additional 5000 nurses and midwives.
The scholarships run in partnership with TAFE NSW and the NSW Health Registered Training Organisation. To be eligible you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in NSW.
